Jan Martens / ICKamsterdam & DansBrabant with tour management by GRIP
2012BIS is a solo for and with Truus Bronkhorst, a dancer and choreographer who reigned supreme in the Netherlands in the 1980s and 1990s. It is a performance about starting over, about keeping going and not giving up. It is a raw performance, a mesmerizing portrait in which Truus gets to grips with her demons. It is a work about a strong, expressive and lonely woman. BIS is by far the darkest piece in Jan Martens’ oeuvre: intensive minimalism peels off more and more layers, arriving at nothing more (or less) than the essence.
“BIS is intense heartache, sadness at separating, fighting against old age, inexhaustible power: it is Truus Bronkhorst.”
- Mirjam van der Linden, De Volkskrant, 25 May 2013****
“The solos that he created for the 62-year-old dancer Truus Bronkhorst and the young actress Joke Emmers in SPRING were uncompromising theatre rituals about topical themes that cut through the soul. Jan Martens is the revelation in an otherwise rather resigned dance season.”
- Sander Hiskemuller, Trouw, 04 July 2013
